If you are looking for information on Chinooks, or if you are looking for a
Chinook puppy, you have come to the right place. Hurricane Chinooks is
dedicated to preserving and improving the historic Chinook dog by selectively breeding
excellent examples of the breed. You will find that the Chinook dogs I use
in my breeding program are thoroughly tested in three areas:
- HEALTH TESTS: All the Chinooks I use for breeding are thoroughly health tested
and their health tests, along with as much information as I can gather on
ancestors, littermates and progeny, are posted on my website, available
on the testing organizations' websites and available in the Online Open Chinook
Health Datbase.
- STRUCTURE/PERFORMANCE TESTS: All the Chinooks I use, with few exceptions, are structurally tested
three different ways before they are bred. They first undergo an independent
evaluation from someone outside the Chinook breed to see if they should be
considered breeding/show potential. Those that pass their evaluation are then
taken into the show ring for the next 1 1/2 to 2 years to attain advanced
conformation titles where they compete against other Chinooks. This ensures only
the best are moved forward. Once they have proven themselves in the show ring,
they are given a last set of independent evaluations, by one or more senior
breeders, both inside the Chinook breed and outside the breed. In addition,
as time allows, some Hurricane Chinooks also participate in performance
venues such as obedience, agility, and search and rescue. Any Chinooks
who have not finished advanced conformation titles are given evaluations by
additional senior breeders to ensure their structural soundness.
- BUDDY TEST: All the Chinooks I own and use for breeding are
great dogs to live with. They are my buddies who live with me as my
house dogs.
Whether you are looking for a working dog, a show dog, or just a new
friend to curl up beside the kids on the couch, this site will interest you.
The Chinook dog is a wonderful companion with a rich American
heritage. Today's Chinook dogs are loyal companions at work
with their owners while doing sledding, hiking, obedience, agility,
herding, flyball, search and rescue, dog shows, and being
their person's best buddy.
