NBOB GR CH 'PR' Mystic's Hurricane Sydney TT BIS

Mystic's Hurricane Sydney standing on a rock.

Mystic's Hurricane Sydney in Canada in August 2006.

Sydney is a wonderful show dog, but she does keep me on my toes at other times. When it is time for her to go into her crate, she will actually assess if there are enough treats in the crate to make it worth her while to actually get in the crate. On the other hand, as a couch potato, she is a wonderful snuggler. Her showing career has been exemplary. In her first year of showing she already boasts a Best in Multi-Breed Show, and her biggest win was at the 2005 Chinook National Specialty, where she attained the title National Best of Breed (NBOB) when she won the 2005 National Specialty. She has excellent movement and demonstrates wonderful control over her body. She is better balanced than most of my Chinooks and almost always has a positive attitude in the ring. Of course, it is important to let her think it was her idea to show well!

Percentile:   80th - This indicates the ranking of Mystic's Hurricane Sydney's passive hip laxity (DI) in relation to all CANINE animals of the CHINOOK breed in the PennHIP database. This result means that 1) Sydney's hips are tighter than approximately 80% of this group of animals (alternatively, 20% of the group has tighter hips than Sydney), and 2) Sydney's hip laxity is in the tighter half of the laxity profile. The median DI for this group is 0.52. Breed-specific evaluations are analyzed semi-annually. Consequently, the average laxity and range of laxity for any given group will change over time.

GR CH INTL/NAT CH ARBA CH 'PR' Hurricane Chaser DNA-VIP TT NSW BIS

Chaser Chaser is out of U-CD GR CH 'PR' Romano's Tundra DNA-VIP OFA by GR CH Hurricane Mackenzie DNA-VIP OFA. She is a solid Chinook with endless energy and strength. Although quite a serious dog, she loves to run for hours in the field with the rest of the Chinooks. She is particularly strong, well-muscled and has a very well-balanced body. She is noted for her extremely smooth and efficient movement. Chaser weighs approximately 50 pounds and is a little over 21 inches at the shoulder.

Chaser made her mark in the Chinook world in 1998 as she became the first
#1 Top Ten Chinook in the UKC She ended up as the #2 1999 Top Ten Chinook right behind her Dad. In 2000, Chaser returned to the #1 Top Ten position. Also, in 1999, she completed her ARBA Championship. She was a multiple Best of Show winner and is the Year 2000 National Specialty Winner. She took a well-deserved break from the show ring, then returned in 2005, and at almost 9 years of age, walked away as the Grand Champion winner in the National Specialty. The judge cited her excellent movement, an important attribute at Hurricane Chinooks. She has passed this excellent structure and movement on to her offspring.

Chaser It's difficult to believe that as a puppy I considered her pet quality. How things changed when Debbie Premus, my puppy evaluator, and I stood in the middle of a rainstorm while she evaluated the litter. When Debbie determined Chaser was one of the top two puppies in my litter, I decided she was a "keeper." I was certainly wise to ask for expert advise. Chaser has been everything a Chinook owner could ask for. She acquired the best of both parents in health, temperament, intelligence, conformation and movement. From the very beginning she was a bright and trainable puppy. I assume she read the book on manners because I've really never had to train her--I believe she came from the factory house broken. Most importantly, she is a wonderful companion and she loves to snuggle up on the couch with me.

GR CH Hurricane Electra DNA-VIP OFA

Electra is out of GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Kniki DNA-VIP OFA by GR CH Hurricane Mackenzie DNA-VIP OFA. She is a very special girl to me as she carries many of her father's traits. In addition, she and I just seem to have a special bond. She is a wonderful companion and trusted house pet. However, Electra spends much of her day running in the pasture with my other Chinooks. She is the easiest to spot as she takes her long graceful stides running with the group. She is a very serious young lady and seems to have the potential to be a very dedicated sled dog. She doesn't demonstrate excitement at being harnessed as many other Chinooks do, but once the team moves out, her line is never slack. She is a wonderful companion with a very focused work ethic.

Green Bean was born at Laughing Mountain Chinooks in Boulder, Colorado. She had grown into being a beautiful adult. She has passed all her health tests and had just finished her Grand Championship when, at just four years of age, she suddenly passed away. A necropsy indicated a hidden condition that struck with no warning.

Green Bean's passing was a devistating loss to Hurricane Chinooks. She was more than just an ordinary Chinook. She was outstanding in almost every way, including as a wonderful family pet. She is greatly missed.

- - - November 12, 1998 to January 30, 2011 - - -

Tchoutacabouffa lived with her human family, her puppy Stitch, and Great Mountain Tecumseh, in North Carolina. She was a beautiful Chinook with wonderful structure and bone, and an outgoing temperament. She was from a litter where all the siblings had a CERF certificate, were OFA 'excellent' hips and were UKC grand champions. OK, so there were only two in the litter, but both Tchoutacabouffa and her sister, Electra, were wonderful Chinooks. Electra is still living in South Carolina at Hurricane Chinooks.

Tchoutacabouffa's only open offspring is GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Nittany, a Reserve Best in Multi-breed Show winner, who just had her first litter in November of 2010.

Tchoutacabouffa (pronounced CHEW-tu-ku-buff - the 'u's are short) was named after the Tchoutacabouffa River in Mississippi.

Tundra Tundra is out of Winterset Nannette by Timbermists Lucky Pierre. She is extremely intelligent, has a strong desire to please and is a wonderful snuggle puppy. Tundra weighs approximately 50 pounds. She is known for her bubbly personality, and although light-framed, she is extremely strong with seemingly endless endurance. Her workability is evidenced by her successful completion of Search and Rescue dog training as a tracking/trailing dog. In addition, she successfully competed in many conformation show venues, including UKC, IABCA, WWKC, ARBA and DFUSA. In 1997 she placed Best in Show in a Canine Rarities Shows multi-breed show. She made both the 1998, the 1999 and the 2000 UKC Top Ten list. Tundra is also a UKC Companion Dog, making her the first Chinook to be a UKC Total Dog.

Tundra did a wonderful job with her four litters, as she is a very caring and devoted mother. One of her greatest accomplishments is producing the 1998 #1 Top Ten Chinook, GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Chaser; and the 1998 Top Ten Best of Breed winner, GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Tobruk. Her litter from the end of November, 1999 has already produced two UKC Champions.

GR CH ARBA Master CH Hurricane Kniki DNA-VIP OFA TT

- - - February 2, 1995 to May 9, 2008 - - -

Kniki

Kniki is out of U-CD GR CH 'PR' Romano's Tundra DNA-VIP OFA by GR CH North Wind Kodiac DNA-P OFA. Although she is a bit heavier boned than my other females, she is a very agile dog. She is approximately 21 inches at the shoulder and weighs a little over 50 pounds. In the conformation ring her best assets are movement, head structure and bone. She is a UKC Grand Champion, and on August 18, 2002, became the Chinook breed's first ARBA Master Champion.

Kniki

She was a truly unique puppy when growing up. Her nickname is Kniki "Not Gotta Clue," which she earned early in life. However, that is very deceptive. She is actually one of the smartest Chinooks I have. At a very early age she realized that unless I was right next to her, she could do anything she wanted without getting in trouble. She would fake not being able to hear me so that I would leave her out in the yard to play until she was ready to come in. For a while I considered taking her to a specialist to see if she was deaf. However, I soon found that I only had to whisper "Milkbone Dog Biscuit" and she would be right at my side. She had trained me well!

Kniki

Unlike any other Chinook I have raised, as a puppy, she was a chewer. She chewed a hole in my couch and dug holes in the yard. In addition, leather shoes were her favorite. One day when I was getting ready for work, I felt tugging at my foot. I looked down and there was Kniki. She had her paws wrapped around my foot and was leisurely munching away at the back of my shoe while I was wearing it! Fortunately she has outgrown all her bad habits and is now a most trusted house dog. She is also a wonderful dog to travel with.

Kniki has been bred three times. In my opinion she has produced a couple of the best puppies I've ever seen come from my line. One has become a U.K.C. Grand Champion and three have become U.K.C. Champions. In addition, she has produced three offspring that have OFA 'excellent' hips.

Hurricane Riker

On April 23, 2003, at just 6 1/2 years old, 'PR' Hurricane Riker passed away. She had contracted a fungal infection that was so rare that it could not be positively identified. She probably had already contracted the problem when she was bred in 2003. However, she carried her litter to term and delivered a beautiful litter of puppies in November 2003. Chaser, her sister, took over all the mothering duties when the puppies were nursing, and Riker underwent treatment, but the infection continued. Fortunately it was not contagious. Until her last few days she seemed happy and enjoyed yard time with the other dogs and puppies. Early the morning of the 23rd she asked to go out. She was let out of her crate and her first stop was to sit by the whelping box where Starseeker's 3 week old puppies were. She leaned up against the box and let the puppies reach over the top and grab her ears--I could almost see her smile as she seemed so content. She enjoyed puppies more than any Chinook I've ever owned.

I feel so lucky to have had this time with her. She was such a sweet dog. I'm sure her puppies will be a great asset to the breed and wonderful companions for their people. Her daughter from her only litter, 'PR' Hurricane Keeper, stayed with me and is a really sweet, fun Chinook. I will miss Riker greatly.

He weighed approximately 65 pounds and was a wonderful couch potato. His first U.K.C. show with other male competition was the 1996 Chinook Specialty at the U.K.C. Premier. At 8 years of age and with 20 Chinooks entered, he won Best of Breed. In addition, during that same weekend PE Zoogen announced that Mackenzie was the first Chinook to receive a U.K.C. Kodiac on A Frame

Kodiac was out of Georgianna's Sheena by Singing Woods Cygnus. He was a lovable boy, and clear up until the age of 13, acted like a little puppy. He weighed approximately 60 pounds and had a moderate size frame. In 1995 Kodiac was awarded a Best in Show. Also, in 1997 he entered a U.K.C. show competing against all U.K.C. Grand Champion Chinooks in which he was awarded the win. He had also been awarded his Canine Good Citizenship and Temperament Test certificate.

Kodiac was extremely healthy his entire life, except for the day he decided to eat the trailer lights off a boat trailer. That act garnered one very large tummy ach. However, he was back to his old self the next day. As you can see from the pictures, age didn't stop him from passing his Herding Instinct Test at age 12.

Kodiac was one of the two foundation studs for Hurricane Chinooks. He produced three U.K.C. grand champions, two U.K.C. champions and has several young children still working their way up in the show ring. Kodiac retired at the end of the 1997 show season at age 11 1/2. Along with being a loved house companion, and up until several months before his passing, he enjoyed running in a 2-acre pasture with many of his children and grandchildren.
