Hurricane Chinooks - top quality Chinook dogs and Chinook puppies. The home grown native American sled dog.
Hurricane Chinooks'
"Top Dogs"

The following Chinooks are current and future parents. They are the cream of the crop at Hurricane Chinooks. Most of them are finished Grand Champions and have been health-tested, demonstrating excellent health, structure, movement and temperament; important attributes for show dogs, working dogs and family pets.

Hurricane Chinooks feels that structure is extrememly important to a dog's continued well being. It is not just for the show ring; it is for a lifetime of good health. It is not uncommon to see a Hurricane Chinook still showing competitavely at age 10 or 11. If they can be in the show ring at that age, they can still be going on walks and playing with the kids at that age.

Hurricane Janacek

Janacek is out of GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Electra, making him a grandson of GR CH Hurricane Mackenzie, who was from the first litter I produced, and ultimately was a two-time National Specialty Winner; and great grandson of GR CH North Wind Kodiac, the first Chinook to attain his championship and grand championship in UKC. Janacek's sire is GR CH 'PR' Thunder Paws Taz Of Boreayl, in my estimation, is one of the best Chinooks I've ever seen.

Janacek is out of Hurricane Chinooks' tenth litter, since Hurricane Chinooks was established. He is very much like his great grandfather, Kodiac. He not only looks very much like him, but he also has Kodiac's laid back personality. He is really a joy to be around, and is one of my best buddies.

Janacek standing

Janacek stepped into the show ring for the first time during the last week of April, 2002, and by the second week of May, 2002, he finished his championship. He is a big boy that moves effortlessly around the ring. He has continued to do well in the show ring, and ended 2002 as the #1 Top Ten Chinook in UKC and the top pointed Chinook in ARBA. As a capstone to his year 2002 performances, Janacek took the 2002 Top Ten Best of Breed Competition during the 2003 Premier weekend.

Janacek went on to win Best of Breed Top Ten for 2003 during the 2004 Premier. In addition, he become the first Chinook awarded the title National Best of Breed (NBOB) when he won the 2004 National Specialty. His daughter, Mystic's Hurricane Sydney became the second NBOB title holder when she won the 2005 National Specialty. Janacek then returned to his winning style in the 2006 National Specialty, becoming only the second Chinook to win the National Specialty twice. Also, during the 2006 Premier weekend, Janacek won Best of Breed Top Ten for 2005 and went on to win a position as one of UKC's top 20 dogs for 2005. To cap things off, Janacek took the 2007 National Specialty, making him the only three-time National Specialty Winner.

Trivia -- Janacek was named after the famous Czeck composer Leos Janacek. Janacek is one of my favorite composers, with an excellent writing style for brass instruments.

GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Chamberlain

the head of a light honey colored dog, with helecopter ears, looking to the right
Chamberlain, August 2009.

Chamberlain was born in the den my Chinooks built in my yard, after my vet determined his mother was not pregnant -- oops. I was lucky that I found him and it took me almost an hour to dig a parallel hole so I could reach him without collapsing the den and bring him inside. Fortunately Chaser would not leave her puppy when it was time for her to come in, and after 30 minutes of searching the surrounding forest, I decided to look in the yard to see if she was injured somewhere. That is when I heard Chamberlain's little squeaks coming from the den. Although it took him a while to warm up, he never missed a beat after that.

Trivia -- Chamberlain is named after General Joshua L. Chamberlain who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He is most noted for his bold bayonet charge at Little Round Top that ended up in the retreat and surrender of many Confederate troups. He earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic defense of the hill.

NBOB GR CH 'PR' Hurricane Katrina RBIMBS

Katrina wins the 2011 National Specialty, under the Honorable Judge June Pasko!
light honey colored Chinook in front of two people, who
are holding the awards Katrina won in the Specialty

Two days after Katrina wins the 2011 National Specialty, she gets her first opportunity to pull. Donna Morton and her lead dog show her how to do it, and Katrina demonstrates she has potential!

Hurricane Katrina has followed in her parent's footsteps and now sports the 'NBOB' (National Best of Breed) prefix, upon her winning the 2011 National Specialty! As of August, 2011, she is in the #1 Top Ten position. However, there is still a half a year to go, so she still has work to do.

Katrina is a wonderful buddy of mine. She is sweet, never causes any problems (except for the Dremel she ate in the middle of the night about a year ago), and is a wonderful snuggler in bed. She is a result of breeding two of my National Specialty Winners who are also products of my own breeding. As a singleton puppy she became the pick of the litter, and she is the whole package. She has a wonderful personality and has movement to die for.

Trivia -- Shortly after Katrina was born, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans with devastating results. That propted the thought of naming a Hurricane Chinook puppy Katrina. However, of equal importance was the fact that Dr. Katrina Becker, a person who has donated a tremendous amount of time and assitance to Hurricane Chinooks, was puppy sitting Chaser when Katrina, a singleton puppy, was born. In short, there were so many Katrinas involved with and around this puppy's birth that it just could not be ignored. Dr. Katrina (Tina) Becker has spent endless hours working with medical issues and helping raise puppies. Tina and her family have be involved in raising Janacek, Seneca, Keeper, Buck, Parker, Hatshepsut, Estanislao and Nittany, from Hurricane Chinooks. This is a wonderful way to honor an individual who has done so much to help Hurricane Chinooks.

Sugihara, consistent with his samurai background, defied the orders of his Japanese superiors and provided transit visas to over 300 Jewish families in the face of the German advance on Lithuania. into the camera left side of a brown Chinook's head

Grand River Kern is the first pick male from Grand River's second litter of puppies. He is a magnificently built puppy and I am so excited to have received him from Marianne Dubois and Grand River Chinooks.

Trivia -- Kern is named after the Kern River. This river is a beautiful river that runs through the central valley of California, not far from where I grew up. The river offers many opportunities including fishing and whitewater rafting.
